4 Jan
Summary
- Conjunctivitis cases rise by 20% due to fluctuating weather.
- Eye allergies increased by nearly 60% due to pollution.
- Sore throats and respiratory issues spike from irritants.

Bengaluru residents are facing a noticeable increase in seasonal health issues, including eye infections, allergies, and sore throats. These ailments are attributed to the city's recent fluctuations in temperature, humid conditions, and escalating air pollution levels.
Doctors have reported a significant uptick in conjunctivitis, commonly known as Madras Eye, with a 20% increase in cases, particularly among school-aged children. Allergic conjunctivitis has seen an even sharper rise, up by approximately 60%, linked to increased pollution causing dry eyes and irritation.
The combination of allergens, dust, and fluctuating weather is also severely impacting the upper respiratory tract. This has led to more instances of sore throats, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and rhinitis. Preventive measures like wearing masks and staying hydrated are recommended to combat these prevalent health concerns.
