14 Nov
Summary
- Dozens of residents in Prestige Falcon City apartment complex fall ill with stomach issues
- Suspected water contamination as possible cause, water samples sent for testing
- Health officials monitoring the situation, no outbreak declared yet

In the past few weeks, many residents of the Prestige Falcon City apartment community on Kanakapura Road in Bengaluru have fallen ill with stomach-related issues. Numerous residents have developed symptoms like stomach aches, diarrhea, and vomiting, leading to hospitalizations.
Avnidhar Hawaldar, a resident, reported that multiple members of his family were affected and had to receive saline treatment at a nearby nursing home due to weakness and fatigue. He stated that nearby hospitals are full of residents from their community, and even the hospital within the apartment complex has seen multiple cases.
A medical team from the Bengaluru South City Corporation has been monitoring the situation since November 12th, when they first received an alert. The team's medical officer, Kumar M.V., said there have been sporadic cases recorded at the hospital inside the apartment complex since October 6th, with a total of 46 gastroenteritis cases reported between then and November 12th. However, he clarified that there has been no outbreak, and they suspect a prevalence of viral diarrhea.
Residents like Mansoor Ali have raised concerns about potential water contamination as the source of the infections spreading through the community. The corporation officials have taken water samples from various sources within the apartment complex and sent them for testing. As of now, they have not confirmed if the issue is water-borne.
The Prestige Falcon City Residents' Welfare Association president, Vasant Kumar, stated that they had the water samples tested at a private lab, and the reports did not find any anomalies. However, the association has taken precautionary measures, including clearing out all stored water, cleaning and disinfecting the storage tanks, and temporarily stopping the use of outside water tankers.
The corporation officials have also provided instructions to the community members, advising them to use boiled and cooled water for drinking to prevent further illnesses.
