Bat Bite Horror: Jogger's Rabies Treatment Ordeal

A routine evening jog in Nashville's Edwin Warner Park became a harrowing experience for Sophia Coe, 25, in early August. While running, Coe felt a sharp sensation on her leg, initially mistaking the attacking creature for a moth. The animal then bit her other calf before being driven away. Upon closer inspection, Coe realized she had been attacked by a bat.

Recognizing the potential danger, Coe immediately cleaned her wounds and sought emergency medical care. Doctors confirmed the bites and initiated a precautionary rabies treatment, a viral disease that is 100% fatal once symptoms appear. Coe underwent multiple painful shots, including directly into the wound sites, and experienced difficulty walking for several days.

Rabies is a serious concern, with bats being a primary source of human cases in the Americas. Coe, who had recently relocated to Nashville for her music career, found the experience frightening and isolating. She is now documenting her recovery and the treatment process on social media, with viral videos educating others about the necessity of prompt medical attention for any wild animal bite, stressing that delay can be fatal.
