Swine Flu Surges: Bareilly Cases Hit 22, Source Unknown

The number of swine flu cases in Bareilly has reached 22 following two new positive tests reported recently. Health officials are actively enhancing surveillance and contact tracing within the district to manage the escalating situation.

One new patient is an 84-year-old Bareilly resident from Janakpuri, currently receiving treatment at a private medical college. Close contacts are being monitored and provided medication. Another case involves a 47-year-old individual residing in Lucknow, whose Bareilly Aadhaar address led to the case being logged by the local health department.

Health authorities are particularly concerned as none of the 22 confirmed cases have a recent travel history, making the origin of the outbreak difficult to pinpoint. It is suspected that infections may have been contracted from areas like Delhi and Noida, which have reported a higher incidence of swine flu.

Frequent movement of people between Bareilly and the National Capital Region is a key factor considered by officials. They believe the virus could have been acquired in busy marketplaces, hospitals, public transportation, or other densely populated areas. The department has increased monitoring of potential cases and their contacts to curb further spread.

In response, health officials have issued a public advisory. Residents are advised to practice good hygiene, including frequent hand washing and avoiding touching the face, to protect against respiratory infections.
