Hospital Construction Paused for Safety Review
10 Dec
Summary
- Hospital to offer maternity, neonatal, and operating services.
- Work halted for a review of healthcare-acquired infection risks.
- Liquid nitrogen tank moved due to proximity to helipad.

The Baird Family Hospital project has encountered delays following a critical design review. The facility, intended to provide essential maternity, breast-screening, and neonatal services, alongside an operating theatre, is undergoing modifications to address healthcare-acquired infection concerns.
Work on the hospital was temporarily suspended to allow for a thorough review of its design concerning infection control. Furthermore, the contractor was instructed to move a liquid nitrogen storage tank due to its proximity to an adjacent helipad, a safety measure to prevent potential hazards.
Project director Colin Adam confirmed that remedial work has been agreed upon with the contractor. These necessary adjustments, which include changes to the facility's layout and ventilation systems, are slated to commence early next year, aiming to ensure the hospital meets all safety and operational standards before its completion.
