3 Sep
Summary
- A three-day-old baby died after parents' health concerns were allegedly ignored.
- Medical staff reportedly argued over infant CPR during a 'horror scene'.
- NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has apologized for missed care opportunities.

A mother has recounted the tragic death of her three-day-old son, Mason McLean, alleging that her warnings about his declining health were ignored. Julie Keegan stated that her son would still be alive if medical staff had taken her concerns seriously.
Mason was born healthy on January 29, 2023, but quickly became unwell at home. A midwife allegedly mistook his sepsis symptoms for normal newborn behavior and failed to refer him to the hospital. The parents took Mason to A&E at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after he became clammy and had difficulty breathing.
Keegan described the hospital's response as chaotic, with staff allegedly arguing over infant CPR procedures and struggling to find necessary resuscitation equipment. She called the situation a "horror scene" as Mason died in a doctor's arms.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde issued an apology for missed opportunities in Mason's care. The health board confirmed a review was completed in August 2025 and has implemented improvements in training, processes, and equipment to prevent similar incidents.
