Global Recall: Toxin Found in Baby Formula
21 Jan
Summary
- Lactalis recalls six batches of Picot infant milk due to cereulide toxin.
- The toxin was found in an ingredient sourced from a third-party supplier.
- Recalls impact 18 countries including Australia, China, and Mexico.

Lactalis Nutrition Santé has initiated a voluntary recall of six specific batches of its Picot brand infant milk. This measure is a precautionary response to the detection of cereulide, a bacterial toxin, within an ingredient supplied by a third party. The presence of this toxin can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting in infants.
The affected infant milk products were distributed across 18 countries. These nations include Australia, Chile, China, Colombia, Congo, Czech Republic, Ecuador, France, Georgia, Greece, Kuwait, Madagascar, Mexico, Monaco, Peru, Spain, Taiwan, and Uzbekistan. The company is working to remove the contaminated products from shelves.
This recall by Lactalis mirrors a similar action taken by Nestlé earlier this month. Nestlé also recalled several batches of its infant and follow-on formulas due to concerns over the same cereulide toxin, which was attributed to an ingredient from a leading supplier. Health authorities are advising parents to check product batches and consult healthcare professionals if they have concerns.
