Baby Loss Awareness Week will be observed with a series of commemorative events aimed at supporting bereaved families. In Lincoln, more than 100 families affected by baby loss will participate in a lantern walk on Sunday, October 11. This significant event, organized by United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity, begins at Lincoln Bishops University at 6:00 PM BST and concludes at Lincoln Cathedral, where participants will light candles.
Complementing the Lincoln walk, remembrance services are scheduled in Hull on October 11, Scunthorpe on October 17, and Grimsby on October 18. To further symbolize awareness, hospitals across Lincolnshire, including Hull Women and Children's Hospital, will be lit in pink and blue. Hospital chapels throughout Lincolnshire will also feature trees of remembrance, offering spaces for reflection and memory.
Rachel Bond, a specialist midwife, emphasized the week's purpose: to challenge the difficult taboos surrounding baby loss and underscore the critical importance of support for families experiencing pregnancy loss or the death of a baby. This initiative seeks to openly address and acknowledge the profound impact of such losses.
