Baby Dies After Consuming Recalled Formula
14 Feb
Summary
- A four-week-old baby died from respiratory failure.
- The infant consumed recalled Nutrilon baby formula.
- Toxins exceeding limits were found in the recalled formula batch.

A four-week-old infant died from respiratory failure at Samson Assuta Ashdod University Hospital. The Health Ministry's investigation concluded that the baby had consumed Nutrilon baby formula from a batch that was previously recalled due to excessive toxin levels.
The recalled formula, pulled from shelves in late January by Teva Israel, contained Cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria. A malfunction in the production process was identified as the cause of the toxin's presence. The Health Ministry confirmed that Cereulide consumption can cause symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea in infants, though it has not been proven to be fatal.
However, the National Center for Forensic Medicine determined that Cereulide toxicity was not the cause of this infant's death. Despite this, the Health Ministry has ordered additional tests and is continuing its thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant's passing, promising transparency in its findings.
