4 Mar
Summary
- At least 36 children across the UK fell ill from suspected food poisoning.
- Several major baby formula brands were recalled due to possible toxin.
- One mother's baby suffered for three months before symptoms disappeared.

At least 36 children across the United Kingdom have reportedly fallen ill due to suspected food poisoning from contaminated baby formula. Several major brands, including Cow & Gate, SMA, and Aptamil, have been recalled due to concerns over the presence of the cereulide toxin, which can cause significant sickness.
One mother, Catharine Alexander, shared her distressing experience where her newborn, Arlo, began projectile vomiting and screaming in agony shortly after being fed a recalled formula. Arlo was hospitalized for five days and required oxygen, antibiotics, and a feeding tube due to a bacterial infection, which his mother believes was caused by the toxic milk. Despite switching formulas, Arlo continued to be unwell for three months until he was switched to Kendamil, after which his symptoms vanished.
Manufacturers Nestlé and Danone have issued statements acknowledging the recalls and assuring the public that current products on sale are safe. Nestlé stated they discontinued sourcing the affected ingredient and are testing all batches, while Danone confirmed that recalled batches have been replaced and that no confirmed cases of sickness are linked to their products. The Food Standards Agency advises parents to contact their GP or NHS 111 if they have concerns about formula given to their babies.
