Baby Dies After Parents Beg for Alms
23 Mar
Summary
- A one-month-old baby died, with locals citing starvation.
- Parents left three young children alone to beg for money.
- This follows a previous child's death under similar circumstances.

A devastating incident occurred in Bareilly's Qila Cantonment area, where a one-month-old girl reportedly died due to starvation and illness. The child's parents, who had been living in a rented accommodation for four months, allegedly left their three young children alone to beg.
According to locals, the father, Mohd Shadab, lost his livelihood in the manjha trade during the Covid-19 pandemic and struggled to find subsequent employment. Despite some temporary aid, he was compelled to resort to begging.
On Friday, Shadab and his wife, Hina, left their infant, a toddler, and another young child at home around 11 am. Upon their return at approximately 6 pm, they discovered their one-month-old daughter was unresponsive.
Authorities were alerted around 10 pm. The infant's body was sent for a postmortem, which cited illness and infection as the cause of death. However, community members maintain that starvation was the reason for the infant's death.
Sadly, neighbors reported that this was not the first such loss for the couple, who had previously lost another child, aged six months, under similar distressing conditions.
