Baby Born Outside Locked Health Centre Gate in Faridabad
18 May
Summary
- Woman delivered baby outside a locked primary health centre gate.
- A high-level probe has been ordered into the incident.
- Night access protocols at the facility have been changed.

A distressing incident occurred in Faridabad's Sector 3 where a woman had to deliver her baby near the locked entry gate of a primary health centre. The woman arrived late on Saturday night, and due to the OPD gate being shut, she delivered her child outside in the presence of her relatives. Both the mother and newborn are reported to be in good health and received prompt medical care.
Following the event, the Haryana Health department initiated a high-level probe, directed by Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao, to investigate potential staff negligence. Dr. Virender Yadav, Director of Maternal and Child Health, inspected the facility and mandated that both the OPD and emergency gates must remain open round the clock. Strict instructions were issued, and disciplinary actions, including termination or suspension, may be taken against the staff on duty if found guilty.
To prevent future occurrences, the department is implementing significant operational changes. These include maintaining 24/7 gate accessibility, permanently stationing an ambulance outside the centre for immediate emergency response, and enhancing nighttime surveillance. Furthermore, a district-level tracking system for pregnant women is being developed, and a 'Maternal and Infant Mortality War Room' is set to launch within two months to improve maternal and infant care across all districts. Residents are advised to dial 112 for emergency transport.
