Ayurveda Meets Oncology for New Cancer Care

The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in Goa is enhancing cancer treatment through a unique integration of ayurveda, yoga, and modern oncology. This multidisciplinary approach aims to significantly improve patients' quality of life.

The Integrative Oncology outpatient department (OPD), established in November 2025, has supported over 150 patients. It combines therapies such as Ayurvedic Rasayana, personalized diet plans, lifestyle modifications, and yoga to restore patient dignity and well-being.

Clinicians shared positive outcomes, citing a patient with metastatic ovarian cancer who experienced relief from fatigue, insomnia, and joint pain. Another case involved a 70-year-old patient with Stage-3 colon cancer who found relief from post-surgical symptoms through ayurvedic treatment, diet, yoga, and counseling.

A Memorandum of Understanding signed on September 23, 2025, between the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Goa, ACTREC-Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, and AIIA Goa, further solidifies this research. This collaboration established a joint clinic for patient evaluation and treatment planning.

The Integrative Oncology Care and Research Centre (IOCRC) at AIIA Goa is developing standardized treatment guidelines and aims to expand integrative oncology services statewide. This initiative aligns with the National Health Policy-2017, advocating for preventive and rehabilitative healthcare.
