Athlete's Rare Cancer Surprise

Lana Nolan, a 21-year-old athlete and nursing student, faced a life-altering diagnosis after undergoing surgery for what was initially believed to be appendicitis. During the procedure, doctors discovered a stage 4 neuroendocrine tumor in her appendix. This rare, slow-growing cancer had unfortunately spread to her bowel, requiring additional surgeries to remove sections of her intestine and colon.

Having completed her treatment, Nolan is now focused on recovery and raising awareness for cancer research. In May of this year, she participated in the Dublin Half Marathon, successfully raising close to $20,000 for the Irish Cancer Society. Nolan emphasizes the importance of seeking medical attention for any health concerns, encouraging others to consult their GPs if worried about their well-being. She has also returned to playing Gaelic football.
