Summary
- Artist Lata Fields created a chalk portrait of her doctor.
- The artwork honored Dr. Natalie Godbee for care during a health scare.
- The event coincided with Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month.

Artist Lata Fields recently returned to City of Hope Atlanta, the cancer center where she was a patient, to present a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Natalie Godbee. This event coincided with Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, during which Fields participated in the Healing Power of Hope and Art initiative.
Nearly three years prior, Fields sought answers at City of Hope for persistent abdominal pain. Although not diagnosed with cancer, the possibility caused significant fear, given her and her husband's self-employment and their daughter's college expenses. Dr. Godbee provided crucial support during this uncertain time, eventually leading to surgery that revealed a benign condition.
Fields expressed her deep gratitude by creating an ephemeral chalk portrait of Dr. Godbee, adorned with teal birds and blue flowers—teal being the color associated with Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. This artistic gesture reunited the artist and physician, marking a full-circle moment. Fields described the chalk art as temporary, like a sunset, but emphasized that the gratitude it represents is enduring.
According to the CDC, cervical cancer is the only gynecologic cancer with a recommended screening test. Women are advised to be aware of their bodies and consult healthcare providers about any concerning changes.
