Gastric Cancer Drug Shows Major Survival Boost
23 Oct
Summary
- Arcotatug tavatecan significantly improves survival in gastric cancer.
- The drug showed a median OS of 10.2 months versus 6.9 months.
- Findings support planned regulatory filing in Japan.
Positive results from the Phase 3 G-HOPE-001 study of arcotatug tavatecan in patients with advanced gastric cancer were presented at ESMO 2026. The novel antibody-drug conjugate met its dual primary endpoints, significantly improving overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) compared to physician's choice treatment.
Median OS was 10.2 months with arcotatug tavatecan versus 6.9 months with the control group. Progression-free survival also showed marked improvement, with a median of 7.1 months compared to 3.1 months. The objective response rate was substantially higher, reaching 37.4% for arcotatug tavatecan.
These findings are poised to support a planned regulatory submission in Japan. Takeda is also advancing global development, with plans for Phase 3 trials in gastric and pancreatic cancers.
Arcotatug tavatecan, a CLDN18.2-targeted ADC, has received Fast Track Designation from the FDA for pancreatic cancer. The G-HOPE-001 study enrolled 464 participants across Japan and China.
