12 Apr
Summary
- Woman lived with years of dismissed pain before Bali emergency.
- Appendicitis was discovered rapidly after moving to Bali.
- Surgery resolved long-standing symptoms previously ignored.

Siobhan Baillieu, a 38-year-old businesswoman originally from Brisbane, relocated to Bali with her fiancé to open a new bar. Prior to this move, she had spent years seeking medical help for a range of chronic symptoms, including severe stomach and back pain, nausea, fatigue, and restless legs, but was repeatedly told she was dehydrated or experiencing normal issues.
Shortly after her arrival in Bali in early March 2026, Siobhan's health deteriorated rapidly, initially mistaken for 'Bali belly'. An emergency doctor identified severe abdominal pain, prompting a hospital visit. Doctors diagnosed appendicitis, with her appendix severely inflamed and on the verge of rupture.
She underwent emergency surgery, a complex procedure due to the appendix's condition. Doctors later informed her that waiting another day could have been fatal. Since the appendectomy, Siobhan reports that many of her lifelong symptoms have disappeared, and she feels like a different person, crediting the Bali medical team for listening to her concerns.
