4 Sep
Summary
- Radiographers to receive 30 days of special leave every 11 months.
- Government issues guidelines to resolve staff shortages in health facilities.
- Contract paramedical staff to receive incentives for surgeries and procedures.

The Andhra Pradesh government has implemented several key initiatives aimed at improving conditions for contract employees within its Health and Medical Education departments. These measures address long-standing service-related concerns and provide tangible benefits to staff across various facilities.
Eligible contract radiographers and radiographic technicians working in teaching hospitals' X-ray and radiology departments will now be entitled to 30 days of compulsory special leave after completing 11 months of service. This leave is separate from their regular entitlement, offering additional respite to staff exposed to radiation hazards.
Furthermore, the government has issued new guidelines to tackle staff shortages at Primary Health Centres (PHCs). These guidelines focus on optimizing the use of existing personnel and implementing shift rotations to prevent nurses from enduring continuous 12-hour shifts. The services of various support staff, including nursing orderlies and ward attendants, will be utilized to ensure adequate coverage.
In a move to enhance practical training opportunities, students pursuing DMLT and B.Sc. (MLT) courses can now undertake clinical training at PHCs and Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs). Contract paramedical staff, including nurses and technicians, will also benefit from incentives distributed through the NTR Vaidya Seva Trust for surgeries and procedures, with details to be publicly displayed.
