- The incident occurred during a planned kidney stone surgery.
- Health officials have launched an investigation into the hospital.

In Sultanpur, health officials are investigating the death of Rajesh Mishra, a 48-year-old man who passed away at Shubhangi Hospital on March 2. His family alleges that an overdose of anesthesia administered during preparation for a kidney stone removal surgery led to his demise.
According to relatives, Mishra was admitted for abdominal pain and cleared for surgery on March 3 under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. His nephew stated that the hospital staff administered anesthesia without a specialist, causing his condition to rapidly decline. The family further claims the hospital delayed informing them of the severity and only referred him elsewhere when the patient experienced convulsions, where he was declared dead.
The Chief Medical Officer confirmed an investigation team is examining the hospital circumstances and that a post-mortem was conducted and recorded by experts. Meanwhile, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Gautam, the hospital doctor, refuted the negligence claims, asserting that specialists were present and the patient's condition deteriorated unexpectedly during the procedure.
