The National Programme for Control of Blindness has praised the state's achievements, noting its success in meeting and exceeding targets. Consequently, the Centre plans to issue guidelines for other states to adopt Andhra Pradesh's best practices. This recognition comes with an increased annual target for spectacle distribution for the 2026-27 academic year, from 90,000 to 2.50 lakh.
This successful program, costing ₹3 crore and shared by the Central and State governments at a 60:40 ratio, ensures quality spectacles are provided to needy students. Over 1.89 lakh students received spectacles in the past, surpassing the target, with further expansion planned for the 2025-26 academic year.
