Summary
- Andhra Pradesh secured sixth position nationally in organ donation.
- Jeevandan scheme and awareness campaigns drive the achievement.
- Over 1,200 patients have benefited from the scheme since 2015.

Andhra Pradesh has secured the sixth position in the country for organ donation, according to a report from the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation. This achievement is largely due to ongoing awareness campaigns conducted under the Jeevandan scheme, which was launched in 2015.
The number of hospitals equipped for organ transplant surgeries has grown from three to nine. These facilities are located across the state, including major cities like Visakhapatnam, Guntur, and Tirupati.
Further permissions have been granted for organ retrieval and transportation in several additional cities, aiming to expand the program's reach. The government has also directed officials to increase transplant numbers in state-run hospitals.
Organs from 18 brain-dead donors facilitated 64 transplants in the first two months of 2026, a significant increase from the previous year. Since 2015, Jeevandan has helped 1,200 patients, with 301 transplants performed in 2025.
Currently, 5,347 people are awaiting transplants, with many in the 20-50 age group. The state government provides honours and financial assistance to organ donors' families, with plans to potentially increase aid.
