In Andhra Pradesh, the NCD 4.0 initiative has achieved substantial screening coverage, with over 2.82 crore individuals tested for non-communicable diseases. This effort has identified a considerable number of cases, including nearly 59.3 lakh instances of hypertension and 48.15 lakh cases of diabetes.
The screening results revealed significant regional variations. Bapatla district reported the highest proportion of hypertension and diabetes cases. Conversely, the Alluri Sitharama Raju district, characterized by its tribal population, recorded the lowest prevalence for both conditions.
Health officials suggest traditional lifestyles, including natural food consumption and increased physical activity in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district, may contribute to lower NCD rates. The program also screened for cancers, identifying numerous suspected oral, breast, and cervical cancer cases for further evaluation, with many confirmed.
The Health Minister urged residents yet to be screened to cooperate with health workers as the NCD 4.0 survey nears its conclusion.
