This initiative, developed in collaboration with UNICEF and the Fernandez Foundation, focuses on promoting natural deliveries among women, leading to a significant increase in such births in hospitals. The program's effectiveness has been acknowledged internationally.
The International Confederation of Midwives, based in the Netherlands, selected the Andhra Pradesh policy as an outstanding model after reviewing its impact on maternal healthcare. The department submitted details of the program three months prior, and it stood out among 6,188 applications received by the organization.
As a result of this prestigious recognition, the department has been invited to present the program's success at a workshop scheduled for June 14-18, 2026, in Lisbon, Portugal. The midwifery training program involves educating selected nurses on best practices for pregnant women, with the first batch having already completed the course.
