Andhra Pradesh Gears Up for Heatstroke Surge
14 Mar
Summary
- 17 million ORS sachets stocked across state hospitals.
- Heatstroke cases significantly increased over three years.
- Digital platform AWARE to forecast temperature severity.

Andhra Pradesh is enhancing its readiness for an anticipated rise in heatstroke incidents. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav chaired a review meeting on Saturday, confirming that all Primary Health Centres are equipped for initial heatstroke treatment. Patients will be transferred to larger hospitals via the 108 ambulance service if needed.
Significant stockpiles of medical supplies have been established, including over 17 million ORS sachets distributed across state hospitals, with urban and rural PHCs holding substantial quantities. IV fluids are also readily available. The state plans to raise public awareness about heatstroke symptoms through inter-departmental coordination.
Official data reveals a concerning trend of increasing heatstroke cases over the past three years, with a notable spike in 2024 and 2025. Eluru district recorded the highest number of cases in 2025. To proactively manage the situation, Andhra Pradesh will employ the Advanced Warning Advisory for Resilient Ecosystem (AWARE) digital platform for advance temperature severity forecasts.
This data will enable officials to identify vulnerable areas and inform District Collectors for timely action. Furthermore, historical temperature data from the past decade will inform the implementation of the Summer Action Plan for 2026, ensuring targeted interventions.
