7 Jun
Summary
- A tribal woman carried her ailing husband through hospital departments.
- The incident was captured on video and went viral on social media.
- The hospital dean ordered an internal inquiry into the patient care.

An undated video circulating on social media since Saturday morning depicts a tribal woman struggling to transport her ailing husband through various departments of the Govt Medical College (GMC) in Akola. The footage shows her carrying the patient without the assistance of a stretcher or wheelchair, prompting widespread criticism of the hospital's patient care.
GMC Dean Dr. Sanjay Sonune stated that the woman arrived after OPD hours and did not initially seek assistance from staff for a wheelchair. He also noted that required documentation, including Aadhaar details, had not been completed before she sought treatment.
Dr. Sonune suggested that attempts were being made to defame the institution and indicated the woman's unfamiliarity with hospital procedures might have been a contributing factor. An internal inquiry has been ordered to investigate potential negligence.
Concerns regarding the availability of essential equipment like stretchers and wheelchairs at GMC Akola have been raised previously, with similar incidents reported where relatives had to transport patients themselves.
