10 Jun
Summary
- Two separate disposable syringe batches recalled by AIIMS in three weeks.
- Quality complaints cited for batches from different manufacturers.
- MP urges Health Ministry probe into recall circumstances and patient impact.

A Member of Rajya Sabha has called for an investigation into repeated disposable syringe recalls at AIIMS, New Delhi, citing potential patient safety implications. Two separate recall notices for 10 ml syringes with needles were issued within three weeks, both citing quality concerns. The first notice, dated May 5, 2026, concerned a batch from M/s Noble Pharmacare Limited. Subsequently, on May 26, 2026, another batch from M/s Veekay Surgicals Pvt. Ltd. was recalled due to product quality issues.
These incidents have raised questions about procurement and quality assurance for critical medical supplies in public healthcare. Syringes are vital for infection control, and compromised quality could pose serious health risks to patients. The MP has requested the Health Ministry to conduct a detailed, time-bound inquiry into the reasons behind these recalls, identify specific defects, and assess any adverse patient effects. He also seeks prompt corrective actions to strengthen quality assurance systems and ensure accountability.
