Doctors at AIIMS Patna achieved a significant medical success by reattaching the nearly amputated right hand of a six-year-old girl. The child, Lakshmi Kumari, sustained the injury from a fodder-cutting machine accident on Saturday afternoon. She was rushed to AIIMS Patna, where plastic surgery and anaesthesia teams commenced an overnight microsurgery at 8 PM.
The complex procedure, supervised by Dr. Veena Singh, Head of Plastic Surgery, lasted approximately six hours. The surgical team included specialists in plastic surgery and anaesthesia. By Monday, positive signs of blood circulation were observed in Lakshmi's fingers, offering great hope.
Medical professionals anticipate that Lakshmi will be able to clap again within two months, provided she receives proper care and rehabilitation. Separately, AIIMS Patna hosted the 33rd biennial national leprosy conference, LEPCON 2026, which gathered over 300 experts and researchers.
