Mystery Illness Hits AIIMS Campus; Water Contamination Suspected
9 Mar
Summary
- Thirty students at AIIMS Mangalagiri fell ill with diarrhea and vomiting.
- The outbreak began on March 6 and March 7 among undergraduate students.
- Water contamination and outside food are suspected causes for the illness.

Approximately thirty students at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mangalagiri, have experienced symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting over the past three days. The affected students are undergraduates, with the initial onset of symptoms reported on March 6 and March 7. Currently, ten students with mild fever are under observation.
The cause of the illness remains unclear. Management temporarily halted water supply to the affected block for a day after the incident, which occurred shortly after Holi celebrations. Investigations are considering possible water contamination within a specific block's tank or the consumption of outside food.
Forty stool samples have been collected and sent for laboratory testing, with results anticipated within a day. The number of affected students has not increased since the initial reports.
