The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi is making significant strides toward establishing face transplantation capabilities. From February 11 to 15, 2026, the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns Surgery is hosting a specialized cadaveric workshop and academic training program.
This advanced training is being guided by Dr. Indranil Sinha, an esteemed associate chief of plastic surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital, a part of Harvard Medical School. Dr. Sinha is an internationally recognized authority in composite tissue allotransplantation and face transplant surgery.
According to AIIMS, face transplantation is no longer an experimental procedure but a vital necessity for patients suffering from severe facial disfigurements due to injuries like acid burns or trauma. The institute aims to provide holistic functional and aesthetic rehabilitation for individuals with limited treatment options.
