AIIMS Bathinda has significantly enhanced its specialized cancer care services with the establishment of a dedicated peritoneal cancer unit. This new unit, operating under the department of surgical oncology, is equipped with an advanced HIPEC facility.
The unit features the RanD Performer 3 HIPEC System, a specialized device designed for hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. This technology allows for controlled heating, circulation, and temperature monitoring of chemotherapy solutions during treatment, crucial for effectively managing peritoneal cancers.
This specialized program will offer cytoreductive surgery (CRS) combined with HIPEC to carefully selected patients diagnosed with peritoneal surface malignancies. This includes certain colorectal, appendiceal, and ovarian cancers that have metastasized to the peritoneum, offering a new hope for these patients.
Prof. Ratan Gupta, executive director of AIIMS Bathinda, highlighted that this advanced facility represents a milestone in the institute's commitment to providing comprehensive and cutting-edge healthcare. Additionally, AIIMS Bathinda has also introduced AYUSH services, integrating traditional Indian medicine practices with modern healthcare to focus on wellness and preventive care.
