AI Voice Agents Boost Remote Blood Pressure Care for Seniors
8 Sep
Summary
- AI voice agents help older adults manage high blood pressure
- Automated system improves accuracy and efficiency of home BP readings
- Patients report high satisfaction with AI-powered remote care

According to a study presented on September 8th, 2025, artificial intelligence-powered voice agents are proving to be a game-changing tool for older adults managing high blood pressure. The research, conducted over 10 weeks, involved 2,000 participants, most of whom were 65 or older.
The AI agent contacted patients, prompted them to provide recent blood pressure readings or take a live measurement during the call. If a reading was outside a pre-set threshold or the patient reported concerning symptoms, the agent automatically escalated the call to a nurse or medical assistant. This automated process reduced the manual workload for clinical staff, lowering the cost per reading by 88.7% compared to using human nurses.
The voice agent, which spoke multiple languages, successfully reached 85% of patients, with 67% completing the call and 60% taking a compliant blood pressure reading. This led to a notable improvement in blood pressure control, while reaching more patients and closing gaps in care.
Remarkably, patient satisfaction with the AI agent was extremely high, with an average score of over 9 out of 10. "We were surprised by the high patient satisfaction scores after interacting with artificial intelligence-based voice agents," said lead author Dr. Tina-Ann Kerr Thompson. "We are excited for what that means for the future, since patient engagement and satisfaction are so critical to health care outcomes."
Experts are hailing this breakthrough as a potential transformation in how remote cardiovascular care is delivered, addressing critical barriers such as limited access to care and gaps in patient support.
