Ahmedabad's health department has administered over 31,000 free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine doses to adolescent girls. This citywide campaign, specifically targeting girls aged 14 to 15, aims to immunize a total of 48,443 beneficiaries. As of May 12, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) successfully vaccinated 31,579 girls, achieving 65 percent of its vaccination objective.
The comprehensive drive, which runs until May 31, is a crucial effort to increase health awareness and prevent cervical cancer. Eligible girls can receive the vaccine at no cost at any Urban Health Centre or AMC-run hospital. This initiative provides substantial financial savings, as the HPV vaccine typically costs approximately Rs 3,000 in private healthcare facilities.
