A tragic incident unfolded at SN Medical College in Agra where a 10-year-old boy died on Saturday morning. The boy was admitted to the emergency paediatric ward, where a portion of the ceiling plaster allegedly fell on him on Friday afternoon. Hospital officials, however, stated that the child succumbed to severe pneumonia and seizures, asserting that injuries from the plaster incident were not the cause of his death.
The principal explained that the boy, a resident of Aligarh, had a history of seizures and developmental delay, and was admitted with fever and breathing difficulties. Despite extensive treatment, including oxygen support, blood transfusion, and antibiotics, his condition worsened. He was placed on a ventilator on Friday evening and passed away early Saturday.
Eyewitnesses reported that the plaster fell while about 15 children were in the ward, leading to their immediate evacuation. The boy's father confirmed the incident, stating they alerted the administration after hearing the sound of the falling plaster. Following the incident, local leaders have called for a thorough structural audit of the hospital's buildings.
