However, progress is uneven, with countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo facing significant challenges in sample transportation and laboratory coverage, delaying disease identification. Furthermore, African nations remain heavily reliant on imports for health commodities, making them vulnerable to global supply chain disruptions.
Recent declines in foreign aid budgets from several Western governments could impact the sustainability of these health security gains, as the full effects of these cuts are yet to be realized. Ongoing conflicts in regions like Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo also exacerbate public health vulnerabilities.
