An alarming health crisis unfolded in Rajamahendravaram on Sunday, February 23, 2026, when at least eight people were admitted to hospitals exhibiting symptoms of anuria, a severe kidney condition. Tragically, an 80-year-old woman in the city also passed away, displaying similar symptoms, raising serious concerns about contaminated milk consumption in the Laala Cheruvu and Chowdeswari Nagar areas.
District authorities were alerted by KIMS hospital after admitting four elderly patients. In response, East Godavari District Collector Kirthi Chekuri has deployed special teams to expedite the medical investigation. The District Medical and Health Officer confirmed eight individuals suffered from anuria, reportedly after consuming milk from the same vendor.
Food safety officials have collected milk samples, and special medical camps have been established in the affected neighborhoods. Health and Family Welfare Commissioner G. Veerapandian stated the department is closely monitoring the situation, collecting various samples, and providing medical support. The condition of the eight hospitalized individuals is reported as stable.
