This decision was influenced by a projected recovery period of six to twelve months, complicated by staffing shortages.

Patrick’s neurologist had given him an estimated prognosis of about one year, though a drug trial offered a glimmer of hope for extended time. He stated his preference to avoid spending significant remaining time in a hospital bed.

He also conveyed his deep appreciation for the GoFundMe donations he received. These funds were designated to support his specialist care during the final stages of his life, an outpouring of generosity that profoundly moved him.
