NSW Approves Massive A$2bn Bankstown Hospital Project

The New South Wales government has officially approved plans for a new A$2bn Bankstown Hospital, marking the state's largest ever capital investment in a public hospital. Demolition and site remediation activities are currently in progress within Bankstown's central business district, with these essential preparatory works expected to continue throughout 2026.

Main construction for the 14-storey hospital is scheduled to commence in 2027. The new facility aims to enhance healthcare services for the growing population in Sydney's south-west by providing increased bed capacity, expanded treatment spaces, a larger emergency department, and a new intensive care unit. Services will also cater to women and children, mental health, cancer care, and aged care.

This significant investment is part of a broader A$3.8bn commitment by the Minns Labor Government to Western Sydney hospitals over the next four years. The Bankstown Hospital's strategic location near public transport, including the future Bankstown Metro station, is expected to support the renewal of the city centre and improve accessibility for patients, staff, and visitors.
