23 Aug
Summary
- Claire Gerring had nine organs removed in life-saving surgery.
- She was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP).
- Claire is now fundraising for a charity that supports PMP research.

A woman's life was saved by undergoing "the mother of all surgeries" after a rare cancer diagnosis. Claire Gerring, 42, was initially referred to hospital with suspected endometriosis.
Further tests, including a FIT test and colonoscopy in March 2025, revealed an inverted appendix with malignant tissue. A biopsy on May 6, 2025, confirmed stage four Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP), a rare cancer typically starting in the appendix.
Referred to a specialist hospital, Claire underwent a 10-hour operation on July 15, 2025. Surgeons removed nine organs, including her appendix, ovaries, uterus, and parts of her bowel and liver, alongside HIPEC chemotherapy. Mucin, a jelly-like substance released by the ruptured tumor, coated her organs.
Now a year into recovery, Claire is left with bowel complications but shows no evidence of disease. She is actively fundraising for the Pseudomyxoma Survivor charity, which supports research for a new blood test to detect PMP. To date, she has raised £16,002.
