High Blood Sugar? 5 Subtle Signs You Can't Ignore
6 Sep
Summary
- Frequent urination and persistent thirst can indicate high blood sugar.
- Vision fluctuations and blurred sight may signal hyperglycemia.
- Recurrent infections and slow-healing wounds are warning signs.
Recognizing hyperglycemia in undiagnosed individuals is crucial, as high blood sugar can lead to serious health issues. A US-based physician, Dr. Kunal Sood, highlighted five key warning signs on September 5.
One indicator is increased frequency and volume of urination, coupled with persistent thirst. This occurs because elevated glucose overwhelms the kidneys, causing water loss and dehydration.
Vision can also be affected. Temporary changes in the eye's lens shape due to fluctuating glucose levels can cause blurred or fluctuating eyesight. Over time, chronic hyperglycemia can damage retinal blood vessels.
Furthermore, impaired circulation and weakened immune functions can result in recurrent infections, particularly genital ones. Diabetic nerve damage may also make injuries harder to notice, delaying wound healing.
