The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission has recommended compensation of ₹16 lakh for the family of a 23-year-old woman who died in February 2026, while en route to a hospital after delivering her child in a broken-down ambulance. The commission cited negligence and dereliction of duty by medical staff at the Primary Health Centre Pimpalkhuta and Rural Hospital Molgi.
The young mother, Kavita Raut, experienced sudden labor pains and was taken to the Pimpalkhuta PHC. Due to critically high blood pressure, she was referred to Molgi Rural Hospital. The ambulance carrying her broke down, and she delivered her baby inside the vehicle without any medical assistance.
She was later transferred to Nandurbar District General Hospital but succumbed to complications from retained placenta on February 15, 2026. The commission highlighted severe lapses, including understaffing, lack of doctors, and inadequate medical facilities, contributing to the violation of her right to life.
