Flu Claims 115 Children: Urgent Warning Issued
23 Mar
Summary
- 115 children have died from the flu this winter season.
- Last week saw one of the largest weekly spikes in pediatric fatalities.
- Influenza B strain poses greater risks for children than Influenza A.

This winter's flu season has claimed the lives of 115 children in the United States. The week of March 7-14 saw a significant increase in pediatric flu deaths, with fourteen children succumbing to the illness, marking the highest weekly total since early January. While national flu levels are trending downwards, experts urge continued caution due to evolving strains.
Influenza B now accounts for the majority of positive tests, a strain known to be more severe for children. Unlike Influenza A, which typically peaks earlier, Influenza B often circulates later into spring and can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia, respiratory failure, and even brain swelling. The CDC reported that six states are currently experiencing high flu activity. Last year's flu season was the deadliest on record for children, with nearly 300 deaths.
