Yorkshire Water Lifts Restrictions After Reservoir Recovery
19 Nov
Summary
- Reservoir levels have significantly increased following Storm Claudia.
- Yorkshire Water is easing restrictions after nine weeks of recovery.
- Over five million households were impacted by the hosepipe ban.

Following a period of drought and restrictions, Yorkshire Water is easing its hosepipe ban for over five million customers. Significant rainfall from Storm Claudia, coupled with drought permit activities, has led to a record increase in reservoir levels. While these gains follow 28 weeks of decline due to the driest spring and summer on record, the recovery is seen as a crucial step forward.
Dave Kaye, director of water services, highlighted that while some reservoirs are now full, others remain below 60%. The company is actively working to rebalance water supplies across its network. However, some reservoirs are dependent on natural rainfall for full recovery, indicating a continued need for vigilance and water conservation.
The temporary restrictions, introduced in July, had prohibited activities such as watering gardens and filling paddling pools. Yorkshire Water expressed gratitude to customers for adhering to these measures and conserving water resources, signaling a collaborative effort towards managing the region's water supply.
