8 Dec
Summary
- 20 turbines, 200m high, proposed near Yorkshire Dales.
- Group fears damage to wildlife corridor and skyline.
- Project aims to power 81,000 homes; consultation in 2026.

Plans for a substantial wind farm on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales have ignited opposition from a newly formed campaign group, the Hope Moor Wind Farm Action Group. The proposed development includes 20 turbines, each reaching an imposing height of 200m, situated between Arkengarthdale and Teesdale.
Members of the action group express significant concerns, citing potential damage to a critical wildlife corridor and the scenic skyline, which they claim would be visible from up to 75 miles away, impacting areas like West Yorkshire, Teesside, Tyneside, and the Lake District. They also highlight the ecological importance of the peatland, vital for carbon storage and biodiversity.
Fred Olsen Renewables, the company behind the proposal, has indicated that public consultations will commence in early 2026, with an application submission anticipated in 2027. The company states that community engagement is fundamental to their process and that the Hope Moor Wind Farm is designed to power approximately 81,000 homes.
