Yamuna River Gets Lifeline: Hindon Water Diversion Begins

This strategy involves reducing the water released to the Hindon from Muradnagar and channeling the difference to the Yamuna via a new pipeline. The objective is to augment clean water supply at the Okhla barrage, addressing the Yamuna's long-standing deficit in environmental flow.
In parallel, initiatives are focused on minimizing transmission losses within the Delhi Sub Branch canal. Savings from reduced water loss will be directed back into the river. These efforts are critical for diluting pollutants and achieving desired water quality standards.
A comprehensive study recommended a minimum environmental flow of 23 cusecs during the lean season for the Yamuna stretch between Hathnikund and Okhla.
