Delhi's Yamuna Gets Real-Time Pollution Watch
16 Jan
Summary
- 41 new monitoring stations will track Yamuna pollution in real-time.
- Stations to be operational by March, tracking pollution spikes instantly.
- Najafgarh and Shahdara drains contribute 86% of Yamuna's wastewater.

Delhi is enhancing its efforts to combat Yamuna River pollution with the upcoming installation of 41 real-time online monitoring stations. These stations are slated for operation by March, marking a significant shift towards immediate pollution tracking. This new system will allow authorities to detect pollution spikes as they occur, a crucial improvement over the current practice of monthly water sample analysis.
The project, approved by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), will provide real-time water quality data, similar to the existing air quality monitoring network. While an initial plan for 32 stations failed to attract bids, a revised tender for 41 stations, including five years of operation and maintenance, was floated. These stations will measure various parameters like pH, BOD, and dissolved oxygen.
