Yamuna Floodplains Reborn: 8,300 Saplings Replaced
4 May
Summary
- Over 8,300 damaged saplings to be replaced along Yamuna floodplains.
- A significant plantation of 46,000 saplings is planned near Yamuna Bank Metro.
- Last year's floods saw the Yamuna's third highest water level recorded at 207.48 metres.

The forest and wildlife department of Delhi has concluded an assessment of trees and saplings impacted by last year's floods along the Yamuna. The river's water level peaked at 207.48 metres, marking its third highest recorded level.
The department is set to replace over 8,300 saplings lost due to the inundation as 'casualty replacement'. Furthermore, a substantial plantation drive will introduce 46,000 new saplings across a 35.73-hectare area near the Yamuna Bank metro station. This plantation is expected to commence shortly.
Damage was predominantly observed in east Delhi's Garhi Mandu area. While last year's floods caused considerable harm, recent assessments indicate minimal damage to saplings this year. The area near the Yamuna Bank metro station experienced significant submergence last year, impacting access roads, though metro operations continued.
