Summary
- Green barriers and forests combat desertification in southern Xinjiang.
- Integrated green network revitalizes barren lands into growth hubs.
- Desert industries generate $4.25 billion annually across 722,000 hectares.

Along the southern Taklimakan Desert, green barriers and fruit trees are turning arid lands into vibrant centers of growth. These ecological initiatives are successfully curbing desertification in southern Xinjiang, far western China.
The integrated green network, a key part of the Taklimakan Desert sand-blocking project, has re-established life on previously barren terrains. This transformation fuels both environmental recovery and economic prosperity.
Across the region, sand-based industries have expanded significantly. Now covering about 722,000 hectares of desert land, these industries collectively generate an impressive annual output value of approximately $4.25 billion.
