Summary
- Rapid response team drove back elephant within 15 minutes.
- Elephants raid crops like tapioca and plantain in forest fringes.
- Summer water scarcity forces animals towards rivers, increasing risks.

A wild elephant caused alarm when it entered human settlements in Neriamangalam on Friday morning. The incident, occurring around 7:30 AM in Chembankuzhi and Manianpara, saw the elephant briefly obstructing the Neriamangalam-Idukki road. This route passes through a forest area known for wildlife-human conflicts.
The forest department's rapid response team (RRT) was deployed and managed to guide the elephant back into the forest within 15 minutes. Officials cited the availability of water within the forest as a factor in the successful operation.
However, the team remains vigilant, noting that as summer intensifies, water sources within the forest diminish. This scarcity compels wildlife to venture towards rivers, often crossing busy roads and inhabited areas, posing significant risks to both animals and people.
