Wild Boar Invades Berlin Mall, Navigates Home Decor Aisles
14 Mar
Summary
- A wild boar entered a Berlin home decor shop, prompting a police response.
- Officers used shields and pallets to guide the boar back to a nearby forest.
- This incident follows other unusual animal encounters in German cities.

A wild boar caused a stir in Berlin on Friday when it entered a home decor shop in the southeastern Koepenick district. The animal slipped through the mall's glass doors around 9 am, prompting staff to evacuate the area. Authorities responded with a team including police and veterinarians, but sedating the animal was deemed impractical due to the store's layout.
Instead, police officers cordoned off the mall and used riot shields and pallets to safely divert the boar back outside. The animal then returned to a nearby forest, concluding the incident without harm. This event is not the first time wild boars have ventured into Berlin's built-up areas, highlighting the proximity of wildlife to urban life.
This incident is reminiscent of other unusual animal sightings in Germany. In July 2023, a wild boar in southwestern Berlin was briefly mistaken for a lioness. Previously, in May 2023, a kangaroo was seen hopping across a road in Erfurt. These events underscore the occasional, surprising encounters between urban populations and wild animals in Germany.
