Six years of dedicated repair work on the Toddbrook Reservoir in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, have concluded. The reservoir, which experienced a partial spillway failure in 2019 leading to evacuations, has now been given the green light by inspectors to be refilled.
The project successfully repaired the reservoir and constructed a new overflow spillway, with the work finalized in December. By late summer, the reservoir is anticipated to reach a significant milestone, returning to its crucial function of supplying water to the Macclesfield and Peak Forest canals. It will also once again serve as a vital resource for the local community.
Beyond the essential repairs, the project encompasses the reinstatement of the former walkway along the dam crest. A new bridge is slated to open to the public by autumn. Following the refilling process, the reservoir will be restocked with fish. Plans are also in motion for a new sailing club and the relandscaping of the nearby Memorial Park with new plantings and a playground.
